I’d like to think for every bad/wild experience that I’m able to follow that up with a couple of good stories. I can’t lie though, sometimes the bad is too much. There have been times where my online dating ventures have gone near the end of the [flat] Earth (Online Dating: The Truther reference) and I’d give up – I mean delete my profile and figuratively burn the app (delete it from my phone and trash talk the whole thing to my friends), but nope not this time. I’ve spun the block with one app already and now I’m just staying strong with another so I’ll share one good story from each.
Bumble Daddy
So when I first got on Bumble a couple years ago I thought I had come across my future husband. If you follow my stories then you’re probably thinking that I feel like this about everyone, but actually that’s not the case. I rarely think this. It’s like a 1 in 24 chance and I only write about the one. It’s such a prestigious benefit of the doubt. If I ever wrote about you then I hope you enjoyed it.
Anyway for the sake of keeping my business, my business, we’ll call him “Bumble Daddy” or BD for short (this makes more sense than it needs to). BD and I hit it off immediately and were talking daily. It finally got to the point where we had to meet (probably like a week after matching) and it is still the best first date I’ve ever experienced. We met up in one of the downtown spots to go to this oyster place. I’d never eaten them but if I was going to be adventurous and meet a stranger, I was willing to go all in. We ended up taking an oyster shot which is definitely the nastiest shot I’ve ever endured. We had to dip afterwards because I was sure it was crawling inside of me and I no longer wanted to be around oysters. To keep it short I’ll spare all the details but we ended up spending that whole day together just eating, drinking, and enjoying each other’s company. He was so easy to talk to and vibe with that nobody really wanted the date to end, but I had to get home to Kaine. Funny how the tables turned later. Either way that is still the bar for first dates, nobody has topped it since.
High Class
I went from calling this man High Class to swamp water in 2.2 sec [face palm]. This one was a more recent experience that ended on a rough note, BUT I still enjoyed the time. It’s honestly a good feeling when the bar is raised by efforts other than your own. We were also talking all day, everyday, and he introduced me to some things I’d never or that I hadn’t experienced in a long time. He was also one of those types that when he says he’s gonna do something, he does it. My favorite date (there were only like 2 lmao) was when he came to pick me up and had 10 brookies waiting on me in the car. Listen if you’ve never had a brookie, then I guess you don’t understand the thrill that immediately set in. Another time he got me two bouquets of flowers just because. He was out here trying to be the man of my dreams and it was a lot to take in and so of course it made sense that I also thought he was the one, or at least the adjacent. Too bad he has some qualities about him I couldn’t get past. Overall, the experience was a fun eye opener. I didn’t burn the dating app I met him on so we’ll see how life plays out.
Happy online dating!
