Soul Cleanse

Last week I decided to take myself on a self proclaimed “soul cleanse” just to realign my focus and work on my spiritual health. Lately I’ve been trying to exude more positive vibes and really taking the time to breathe deeply and make affirmations for my life. I’ve also been working on cleansing the negative that interrupts my peace with healthier habits in ways such as prayer, exercise, and burning sage to cleanse not only myself but my household. Over the past 7 days I took this cleanse to a new level in that I blocked out almost all of the outside world. No social media, no drinking; just working and studying. I listened to sermons and gospel music to help strengthen my faith. I went to the gym 4 days instead of 3 because I’m trying to be my own body goals. I even made sure to walk my dog daily and watch the way I scold him as to not put any negativity out on him. I drank my water, moisturized, ate home cooked meals, and minded my business for 7 days. In those days I took something away that I learned that I felt would help me even after my cleanse was over.

Day 1: affirm the cleanse. You need to know what you’re doing and the end goals, so make that well known from the start.

Day 2: delete the placeholders, meaning, forgive yourself and those who will probably never apologize. Don’t let negative things hold a place in your life and hinder you. Don’t let a possible apology control your will to move forward.

Day 3: patience is a virtue and fighting the urge. You have to be patient with yourself as well as others so don’t rush any process or jump to any conclusions – these take an unnecessary toll on your energy. Also fighting the urge to delve back into old ways is hard but worth it once you succeed. Find something else to take your mind off of the habit; find a healthier way to deal/cope.

Day 4: Jesus = peace. Period.

Day 5: God is always on time. Just when you feel like giving up and all hope is (almost) lost, here comes God.

Day 6: “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.”

Proverbs 17:22 Learning to feel good in spite of whatever has you down literally helps change your perspective on the situation. You’re not able to think through the situation if you’re already defeated.

Day 7: Seeing God in everything. Sometimes it’s nice to just stop and see God in the little things. When you feel alone just look around.

These were just my takeaways from my own experience that aligned directly to my life. If you try your own version of the soul cleanse please let me know. I’d love to hear about what you did and your takeaways.

Peace, love, & hair grease. Happy soul cleansing.
